World Space Party
189 parties in 50 countries on 7 continents on 2 worlds

Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into space on April 12th, 1961. The US Space Shuttle first launched on April 12th, 1981. Yuri's Night is like the St Patricks Day or Cinco de Mayo for space. It is one day when all the world can come together and celebrate the power and beauty of space and what it means for each of us.

I had much fun, it was nice to get out of the house, weather was perfect. Amon Tobin and Phil Lesh played.

There is a flower within my heart
Daisy, Daisy
Planted one day by a glancing dart
Planted by Daisy Bell

Whether she loves me or loves me not
Sometimes it's hard to tell
Yet I am longing to share the lot
Of beautiful Daisy Bell

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do
I'm half crazy all for the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two

We will go 'tandem' as man and wife
Daisy, Daisy
Ped'ling away down the road of life
I and my Daisy Bell

When the road's dark, we can both despise
Policemen and lamps as well
There are bright lights in the dazzling eyes
Of beautiful Daisy Bell

I will stand by you in "wheel" or woe
Daisy, Daisy
You'll be the bell(e) which I'll ring you know
Sweet little Daisy Bell

You'll take the lead in each trip we take
Then if I don't do well
I will permit you to use the brake
My beautiful Daisy Bell.

Hal: What is going to happen, Dave?
Dave: Something wonderful.
Hal: I'm afraid.
Dave: Don't be! We'll be together.
Hal: Where will we be?
Dave: Where I am now.

Weather permitting, the eclipse will be visible from all locations in the United States, according to NASA. Along the Oregon and northern California coasts, the moon will rise during the early stages of the eclipse, however.

When to watch (NOW!! started 10 minutes ago)

Eclipses occur only at full moon when the sun, Earth and moon are in a perfect line. Because the moon's orbit around Earth is not perfectly aligned with the plane of Earth's orbit around the sun, eclipses do not occur at every full moon.

The moon will enter Earth's umbral shadow (the full shadow) at 8:43 p.m. ET (that's 7:43 p.m. Central, 6:43 p.m. Mountain and 5:43 p.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, Feb. 20. It will appear as though an ever-larger bite is being taken out of the moon.

"An explosion beneath a manhole cover on Mission Street in downtown San Francisco July 24 knocked out power"

"The official said the source of the power outage was an underground failure and that authorities were still investigating the cause. "

"Ironically, 365 Main issued a press release earlier in the day announcing that it has provided online retailer RedEnvelope with "two years of 100-percent uptime at 365 Main's San Francisco facility ... since moving to 365 Main in July 2005."
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2162216,00.asp

"On the same day a consumer advocacy group raised questions about PG&E's bid to get rewarded for its reliability, about 40,000 customers of the utility lost power."
http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_6455074

"This afternoon a power outage in San Francisco affected the 365 Main St. data center. In the process of 6 cascading outages, one of the outages was not protected and reset systems in many of the colo facilities of that building."

"What was broken was most sites were not designed to come up automatically from scratch"

LJ was down most of the day due to a power outage in SF, LJ hosts with 365 Main Inc. who claim to be immune to such things.. they lie.

"365 Main Inc. develops and operates the world's finest data centers. Each facility is optimized for modern data center requirements, featuring 24/7/365 power, cooling, connectivity and security capabilities to ensure mission-critical operations and business continuity for tenants."

But what kind is it? Anyone out there an arachnid expert? Found in my basement in Boulder Creek, CA. It's hard to tell in the photo as there are no references, but the spider is ~1.5-2" across.

I'm almost embarrassed to post this it's so silly and useless, but here..

FoxToy

It's a small windows application that displays some rotating squares with a variety of controls to tweak the way it looks.

I like OpenGL and this is an example of the kind of things I make to learn, or when I am just bored.. You might need the .Net Framework Redistributable package to run it.
